Celebrate the festival of lights as part of this Indian festival there will be activities, crafts programmed throughout the day.

Activities, crafts will be programmed throughout the day 11am  -4pm followed by a parade through the town and celebration of dance, music and food.

To join the parade meet on Northgate near to Boots for start of the parade - bring a lantern, wear your colourful and sparkly clothes ready to celebrate this wonderful parade.

Queen Street Shopping Centre 11am  - 4pm

  • Visit the Diwali light arch and selfie throne in the shopping centre.
  • A beautiful Diwali print activity to make a lantern with The Littlest Falcon - Queen Street Shopping Centre
  • Illuminated lamps to decorate for the procession with Shirley Wells - Queen Street Shopping Centre
  • Miss Print is creating an Indian inspired piece to decorate and display

Cornmill Shopping Centre 11am - 3pm

  • Yvonne Preston with the Scrapstore Studio will have an uncycled inspired creation to make to use in the parade.

Darlington Building Society 10am - 1pm

  • The Crooked Halo will be creating mandala colouring art in the Darlington Building Society Branch.
Market Hall 
  • Diwali inspired colouring and craft activities.
  • Diwali inspired music will be played throughout the day in the market hall.
  • From 5:30- 7:00pm Dancing and music performances and celebration in the market hall - follow the lantern parade to see the amazing Navrang Dancers and music. 

Dolphin Centre

  • Bollywood Dance Workshop Tasters 30 min sessions at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm, Need to pre-book via Eventbrite

Newcastle Building Society 

  • Diwali craft activities
  • Free facepainting

Darlington Library 10am - 12pm

  • Diwali printing activity using stencils to make bright and colourful artwork. Recommended age 3-10yrs, free drop-in limited spaces.
Babul's Darlington 
  • Live DJ Music throughout the day to celebrate
  • Collect a colouring activity designed by our local artist to make a beautiful Diwali inspired craft (felt tips supplied by Cummins)
  • Celebration stop along the lantern parade route.

Lantern Parade - Meet on Northgate outside Boots, bring a lantern, wear colourful or sparkly clothes and join is with this wonderful parade. 

Theatre Hullabaloo - Diya and Rangoli family workshop £3p Children and their grown-ups can create their own Diya lamp which are symbolically lit during prayers, rituals, and ceremonies in the Hindu culture. We’ll also be creating pretty Rangoli patterns – a traditional artform in Hinduism. BOOK HERE
