Diwali Lantern Parade
Celebrate the festival of lights as part of this Indian festival.
Join Darlington's first Diwali lantern parade starting at 4pm
Free Drop In Lantern and Diwali Crafts Saturday 11th November 2023 11am - 2pm with Shirley Wells at Queen Street Shoping Centre.
The Lantern Parade will start on Northgate outside at 4pm and walk towards the Market Cross through alleys and streets. There will be fantastic Dhol Drummers and Banghra Dancers joining the parade, bringing movement and sounds to the event.
Following this celebration we will finish at th Market Cross location where Newcastle Building Society will be offering free hot drinks.
Please arrive at 3:30pm along Northgate near River Island store to get lined up to begin the parade.
The route is along town centre footpaths and through some of the narrow alleys, please wear appropriate clothing for winter weather.
No lanterns will be released into the air, they are all handheld and will be lit by LED battery power candles.
Darlington College lanterns made by the students will be displayed in shop windows.
School paricipating include - St Mary's Cockerton, Gurney Pease, St Johns, St Augustines and Croft on Tees primary schools.
