West Park is a 12 hectare local nature reserve which combines woodland, wildflower meadows and wetlands with poetry and sculptures. It also has a large natural play area, four bike tracks, an orienteering course and an orchard, so there's something for everyone.
A large green space away from the centre of town which is ideal for a brisk walk or early morning stroll. It has a bandstand, multi-use games area, bike track and picnic tables.
The Denes is a 1.5km linear park that winds its way gently alongside Cocker Beck right into the heart of the town. It is made up of six Denes and is popular with both local people and wildlife.
Drinkfield Marsh is a nature reserve to the North of Darlington, close to Harrowgate Hill. It's home to a peaceful pond where you'll spot plenty of wildlife, such as herons, kingfishers and ducks.
If you want a stroll by the river, head to Broken Scar, a grassy meadow with picnic area and playground, and a lovely trail alongside the water.
The River Skerne is a tributary of the River Tees and can be seen in many places across Darlington. It flows under underneath 17 bridges in the borough, but the best place to see it is in South Park where you may spot otters.
A former ironworks site that is now a five hectare local nature reserve between the Stockton & Darlington Railway line. With grasslands, small ponds, woodland and scrub habitats, you're guaranteed to spot some wildlife.
Geneva Wood is a small, local woodland reserve that makes for a lovely walk. You may also be able to spot some deer!
