A new Active Animals trail to encourage families to stroll around Darlington town centre has been rolled out and there’s a chance to win prizes.
Darlington Borough Council has worked with illustrator Liz Millions, who has designed 18 active animal characters, including hippos, tigers and monkeys which will be on display in the windows of shops and businesses.
Young explorers will need to match the name of the animal with the venue to complete the trail.
The trail has been put together to encourage families to become more active and discover what the town centre has to offer. There will also be a free prize draw.
Anyone completing the trail will have walked 2.4miles or 5,000 steps.
The trail starts from Saturday 29 May with entries due by Sunday 6 June and can be downloaded from the link above. Printed copies will also be available from participating outlets.
The Leader of Darlington Borough Council, Heather Scott, said: “Our teams have worked hard to put together a superb range of events to keep youngsters of all ages active and entertained throughout half term. With the fantastic range of shops, cafes and restaurants and two hours free parking in our car parks, there has never been a better time to come into the town centre and enjoy some family time.”
Councillor Alan Marshall, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy and regeneration, added: “As Covid restrictions continue to ease we are delighted to resume our exciting programme of town centre events. We want people to come back to the town centre they know and love and enjoy the wide range of shops and leisure activities we have on offer.”
